World's largest camera captures 500,000 galaxies in single image

Astronomers have released a stacked image from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile, showing more than 500,000 galaxies and 50,000 stars in the COSMOS field. The picture was taken with the 3.2-gigapixel LSST Camera, the largest digital camera ever built. It marks the observatory's first data release from the camera, ahead of a decade-long survey expected to reveal more cosmic phenomena.
