Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya assured Parliament that gig workers will receive social security benefits through the new labour codes. Citing a Niti Aayog report, he said India has about 80 lakh gig workers, of whom nearly 10 lakh are registered on the e-Shram portal. The four labour codes took effect from 21 November 2025, legally recognising gig workers and providing protections like minimum wages and occupational safety.
