Australia pairs Indigenous knowledge with tech to fight wildfires

As wildfires rage across Europe, with Spain under a national state of emergency, Australia is offering lessons in disaster preparedness. Researchers led by Professor Marta Yebra are pairing satellite data with Indigenous ecological knowledge to detect fire risk earlier. The Bushfire Research Centre of Excellence, created after the 2019-20 Black Summer fires, also promotes cultural burning.
