Indian envoy says Pakistan eroded Indus Waters Treaty goodwill

India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, defended New Delhi’s decision to put the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, writing in Newsweek that Pakistan spent decades eroding the pact’s goodwill through wars, cross-border terrorism and obstruction. He cited attacks on Parliament, Mumbai, Uri, Pathankot and Pahalgam, and claimed over 40,000 deaths. Kwatra blamed Pakistan’s water scarcity on mismanagement and noted threats of war at a recent Islamabad conference.
