Blanche withdraws Trump fund plan, clearing confirmation path

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche formally withdrew President Donald Trump's controversial $1.8bn compensation fund plan, a move that removes a major obstacle to his permanent confirmation. Two Republican senators had demanded written assurance that the fund, which could have paid people prosecuted over the 2021 Capitol riot, was dead. Blanche also limited IRS audit immunity to named parties. The Senate judiciary committee may vote on Tuesday.
