AI Readies to Manage Growing Satellite Constellations

As satellite constellations expand, human operators are becoming unable to manage them, according to an op-ed by space industry veteran Martin Halliwell. With up to 70,000 new low-Earth orbit satellites possible in five years, AI is key for onboard data processing and network capacity management. However, legal, organizational, and liability issues may slow adoption, making operators hesitant to grant AI full control.
