BJP loses Bankipur, Datia bypolls; Kishor wins first seat

The BJP lost the Bankipur and Datia assembly bypolls, with Prashant Kishor winning Bankipur by 19,324 votes — his first electoral victory and Jan Suraaj Party's maiden Bihar Assembly seat. The seat had been held by the BJP since 1995. Turnout was just 34.24%. Kishor ruled out alliances, calling the result a message against Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
