BP profits double to $5.73bn as Middle East crisis sends oil soaring

BP’s quarterly profits more than doubled to $5.73bn in the three months to June, its highest since the start of Russia’s war on Ukraine, driven by soaring oil and gas prices amid the Middle East crisis. New chief executive Meg O’Neill said there was “more to do,” while Friends of the Earth and Donald Trump criticised the windfall as households struggle with energy bills. Shell and Aramco also reported sharp profit gains.
