Alien search may have scanned millions more stars than thought

A new analysis suggests radio telescopes have already scanned millions more stars for extraterrestrial signals than previously realized. PhD student Louisa Mason of the University of Manchester used the Besançon Galactic Model to show that surveys by the Green Bank and Parkes telescopes covered over 6.1 million stars, not just the 288,315 originally catalogued. This expands the potential targets for future SETI searches.
