Rai Accuses Congress of 'Cheating Democracy' in Birth-Death Bill

Union Minister Nityanand Rai accused Congress of 'cheating democracy' through irregularities in birth and death registrations while defending the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Rajya Sabha. The Bill, passed by the Lok Sabha on July 31, requires a judicial magistrate's order for registrations delayed beyond two years. Rai noted birth registration rose from 86.6% in 2014 to 99.1% in 2024, and death registration from 72.5% to 99.4%.
