WhatsApp tests age checks in India ahead of DPDP Act

WhatsApp said Tuesday it is testing privacy-protective ways for Indian users to confirm their age ahead of upcoming legal requirements, including the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act. The Meta-owned platform stressed the test is optional, users can continue using WhatsApp without confirming age, and age information will remain private. The move follows social media chatter and remarks by IT Secretary S Krishnan about age-related provisions.
