Mississippi begins redistricting after Supreme Court ruling

Mississippi lawmakers took the first steps toward redrawing legislative, congressional and judicial districts after the U.S. Supreme Court's Louisiana v. Callais ruling weakened minority voting protections. The Joint Redistricting and Reapportionment Committee held its first meeting and scheduled eight public hearings over two months. Voting rights activists, however, called the process a sham aimed at dismantling majority-Black districts, while lawmakers said they were gathering public input.
