Michigan primary tests Democratic direction in Senate race

Michigan Democrats voted Tuesday to choose between progressive Abdul El-Sayed and centrist Rep. Haley Stevens for the U.S. Senate nomination, a race seen as a test of the party's direction. El-Sayed, a former public health official, led in recent polls against Stevens, a 43-year-old congresswoman, in a contest flooded with over $40m in outside spending. The winner faces Republican Mike Rogers in November in a pivotal fight for Senate control.
