Centre may call special Parliament session on Aug 17 for quota bills

The Union government may convene a special Parliament session on August 17 to take up the Delimitation Bill and the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill, according to government sources. The session would follow the Monsoon Session's scheduled conclusion on August 13, with Parliament possibly not prorogued to allow quick reconvening. The legislative package, part of the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill, previously failed to secure the required two-thirds majority in April. Recent political shifts, including the TMC's defeat in West Bengal and potential DMK support, have narrowed the gap toward the special majority mark.
