Calcutta HC rejects Abhishek Banerjee's plea for foreign eye treatment

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday dismissed Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee's plea to travel abroad for eye treatment after he declined to appear before a medical board at state-run SSKM Hospital. The court, led by Justice Saugata Bhattacharya, said an independent medical assessment was necessary to determine if treatment outside India was required, observing, "What is important is the treatment of the petitioner; where it will be administered is immaterial." Banerjee had sought permission to leave India while facing multiple criminal cases.
