Gene-edited beagles offer hope for dog allergy sufferers

Scientists used CRISPR gene editing to create hypoallergenic beagles, Bailey and Alfie, by switching off the gene producing the main allergy-causing protein in dogs. The technique, first successful in dogs, was published in the CRISPR Journal. While the pups show no signs of the protein, experts caution it may take years to commercialize and could impact shelter adoptions.
