Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologised to the Indian government on Wednesday for the temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Facebook video and for lapses related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM), deepfakes, and algorithmic bias. The apology, conveyed by Meta's global affairs chief Joel Kaplan to IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, followed a parliamentary ultimatum threatening to revoke Meta's safe harbour protections under Indian law. Meta admitted to paid boosting of certain content and pledged corrective measures.
