Gambian women restore mangroves shielding Banjul

In The Gambia, women like Fatou Jarjue are restoring mangroves in the Tanbi Wetland, which protect the capital Banjul from erosion and flooding while supporting local livelihoods. Jarjue has planted over 5,000 mangroves since last year. The rainy season pause in oyster harvesting, part of a co-management plan, allows stocks to regenerate and ensures safety, according to marine scientist Dawda Saine.
