Iranian footballers granted Australian citizenship after anthem protest

Two former Iranian female footballers, Fatemeh Pasandideh and Atefeh Ramezanisadeh, have been granted Australian citizenship after refusing to sing Iran's national anthem at the Women's Asian Cup in March. The pair, who sought asylum in Australia, were praised by US President Donald Trump but branded traitors at home. Five other teammates who initially sought protection later returned to Iran.
