Shipowners Urge UN to Oppose Strait of Hormuz Tolls

Eight leading shipping associations have written to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, urging them to oppose tolls in the Strait of Hormuz amid reports that Iran and Oman are nearing a deal to manage the waterway. The groups warn that compulsory transit fees would violate international norms, raise energy prices, and harm global livelihoods. The move follows Iran's establishment of a de facto toll system after the US-Israel war began in late February.
