South Korean police raided Starbucks' local headquarters in Seoul on Tuesday as part of an investigation into a marketing campaign perceived as defaming 1980s pro-democracy movements. The campaign, which promoted stainless-steel tumblers called "SS Tank" and declared May 18 "Tank Day," drew public outrage for referencing the 1980 Gwangju uprising and a 1987 police cover-up. Shinsegae Group, which owns 67.5% of Starbucks Korea, canceled the campaign, fired the CEO, and closed stores for sensitivity training. The investigation follows complaints from relatives of Gwangju victims.
