Air India, IndiGo appoint new CEOs amid aviation challenges

India's two largest airlines, Air India and IndiGo, have appointed new chief executives at a pivotal time for the aviation sector. Air India named Tewolde Gebremariam as CEO and Managing Director on August 6, succeeding Campbell Wilson. IndiGo's William Walsh, former British Airways chief and ex-IATA Director General, took charge on August 3. Together, the carriers handle nearly 90% of India's domestic air traffic, facing surging demand, volatile fuel prices, and supply-chain disruptions.
