India's food safety regulator FSSAI has proposed a nutrition table for packaged foods instead of front-of-pack warning labels, in an affidavit to the Supreme Court. The proposal, which lists recommended daily limits for sugar, salt, and saturated fat alongside nutrient content, has drawn criticism from public health experts who say it burdens consumers with interpreting data rather than providing clear warnings. The court had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with FSSAI's previous efforts.
