India's Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has warned of a surge in WhatsApp account takeovers via malicious ZIP files disguised as account statements or regulatory notices. The malware, spread through WhatsApp, SMS, or email, installs a Trojan on Windows devices, hijacking WhatsApp Web sessions. Fraudsters then impersonate executives to trick finance staff into transferring funds. The campaign has targeted over 58,000 potential victims, with more than 10,000 protected so far.
