Vande Mataram to debut at Red Fort Independence Day ceremony

Vande Mataram will be played at the Red Fort on August 15 for the first time as a scheduled item in the formal Independence Day programme, a defence ministry official said. The national song will be rendered just before the national anthem, following Parliament's passage of a bill extending to it the same legal protection as the anthem. The bill awaits presidential assent.
