OMCs reject E20 petrol contamination claims after nationwide tests

State-run oil marketing companies IOC, BPCL and HPCL said nationwide testing found no evidence of widespread moisture or chloride contamination in E20 petrol, with fuel quality remaining within prescribed standards. Over 100 refinery samples showed chloride at or below 1 ppm, while retail samples ranged 0-3 ppm, contradicting claims of several hundred ppm. Two isolated elevated chloride cases led to temporary supply suspensions. Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri dismissed the concerns as an attempt to create controversy around India's ethanol blending programme.
