British Columbia declared a state of emergency in Summerland as the Bald Range wildfire, burning out of control, forced thousands to evacuate and cut power. The blaze has grown to about 5,000 hectares, with 39 evacuation orders and 49 alerts issued. Around 1,500 firefighters are deployed, and wildfires have burned 3.9 million hectares across Canada this year.
