India to add 5,000 PG medical seats by 2028-29

India will add 5,000 postgraduate medical seats by 2028-29 under a central scheme, with the cost ceiling per seat raised to Rs 1.5 crore. The country currently has 86,360 PG seats, with Karnataka leading at 10,092. The expansion aims to address the shortage of specialist doctors.
