MyGovIndia has clarified that UPI payments remain free for personal use, debunking viral claims that a recent PSS Act amendment would introduce charges. The amendment is an enabling provision for a possible future merchant discount rate framework, which would only affect high-value business payments. UPI transactions in July 2026 exceeded 2,300 crore, worth nearly ₹30 lakh crore.
