British driver Andy Green set a new land speed record for hydrogen-powered cars, reaching 406.320 mph (653.908 kph) at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats. The 64-year-old former RAF pilot drove a JCB-built car with two hydrogen internal combustion engines. Green previously broke the sound barrier in 1997 and holds the diesel record.
