India's Aditya-L1 mission sheds light on Sun's corona mystery

India's Aditya-L1 solar mission has provided new insights into why the Sun's corona is millions of degrees hotter than its surface. A study led by Prof R Ramesh found that magnetic field reconnections supply 93% of the corona's energy, while waves from the surface contribute only 7%. The findings were published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.
