Gambian women turn grief into song

In The Gambia, the Kanyeleng tradition helps women who have experienced infertility and child loss find solidarity through music. Elder Mentending Trawally, 84, joined after repeated miscarriages and now passes songs to younger generations. Historians estimate over 100 groups exist nationwide, with similar traditions across West Africa.
