India's MedTech Push Tests Healthcare Self-Reliance Beyond Drugs

India, a global leader in pharmaceuticals and vaccines, now faces a new challenge: reducing dependence on imported medical devices, which account for about 60% of domestic consumption. In 2024-25, imports hit Rs 1.37 lakh crore against exports of Rs 42,360 crore. Experts see early progress via PLI schemes and rising exports, but stress the goal is global competitiveness, not isolation.
