Hurricane Lala weakened to a tropical storm on Sunday after skirting Hawaii's Big Island without making landfall, but still brought hurricane-force gusts and heavy rain. At least one person died in a car accident, and over 130,000 households lost power. Up to three feet of rain was expected on higher slopes, threatening flash floods and mudslides.
