Germany seizes 9,000 life jackets in anti-smuggling raids

German authorities conducted their first raids under a new law targeting migrant smuggling, seizing over 9,000 life jackets, dozens of dinghies, and 360 pumps in North Rhine-Westphalia. The equipment, stored at a secret warehouse, could have carried more than 2,000 migrants across the English Channel. The law, passed in December, makes facilitating smuggling to the UK a specific criminal offense.
