India weighs duty-free sugar imports to curb record prices

India is considering limited duty-free sugar imports and tighter stockholding limits for bulk traders to rein in record prices, government and industry sources said. Wholesale prices in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, have surged nearly 20% since August to a record 5,350 rupees per 100 kg, despite sufficient supplies. The measures aim to boost availability during the peak festival season.
