US Air Force flight to Antarctica turns back over Russian space activity

A U.S. Air Force C-17 transport aircraft bound for Antarctica turned around mid-flight on Aug. 18 after a Russian notice warned of potentially hazardous space activity. The FAA had issued a NOTAM citing possible debris from Russian aerospace activities over the southern Indian Ocean. The exact nature of the activity remains unknown.
