The Indian government told the Supreme Court on Thursday it is reconsidering the UGC's 2026 regulations on caste discrimination in higher education, which have faced legal challenges and protests. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the government is examining the rules but has not decided on a course of action. The court has sought a counter-affidavit from the UGC within four weeks.
