Weather satellite guides eclipse cruise to clear skies

Meteorologist Joe Rao sailed on the cruise ship Le Boréal to witness the Aug. 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in the Mediterranean. Using a weather satellite 22,000 miles above Earth, he and Captain Mathieu Tsingrilaras maneuvered the ship to avoid clouds, ensuring a clear view of the sunset eclipse.
