India SC upholds broad industry definition for pending cases

India's Supreme Court upheld the expansive definition of 'industry' from its 1978 ruling, applying it to all organizations with an employee-employer relationship, including temples and NGOs. The decision, however, applies only to pending cases under the Industrial Disputes Act, as the new Industrial Relations Code took effect in November 2025.
