Nancy Kassebaum Baker, former US senator from Kansas, dies at 94

Nancy Kassebaum Baker, the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate without following a spouse into office, died Friday at 94. The Kansas Republican served three terms and was known for her independent, moderate politics. She married former Sen. Howard Baker in 1996.
