Sony's Resident Evil reboot, directed by Zach Cregger and starring Austin Abrams, opened to a record $60 million in North America, displacing Practical Magic 2 from the top spot. The Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman sequel fell to second with $12.2 million. Spider-Man added $6.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $944.5 million.
