Illinois Legalizes Medical Aid-in-Dying Under Deb's Law

Illinois legalized medical aid-in-dying on Sept. 12, 2026, allowing doctors to prescribe lethal medication to terminally ill patients. The law is named for Deb Robertson, a Lombard woman with a rare cancer who became its leading advocate. Disability advocate Ebony Payne is suing, and a judge denied her request for a preliminary injunction.
