SC Judge Questions Election Commission Selection Panel Independence

Supreme Court Justice Dipankar Datta said the Election Commission must be independent and seen to act independently for free and fair elections. He questioned the 2023 law's selection panel, noting a Union minister nominated by the PM cannot oppose the PM. The bench gave a split verdict on referring pleas against the law to a larger bench.
