Sudan's collapsing pound deepens hardship as war grinds on

Sudan's pound has plunged to about 7,500 to the dollar on the black market, from roughly 600 before the war, as inflation and soaring food costs strain households. Annual inflation was over 41 percent in July, and the UNDP says the economy has shrunk by more than 40 percent since fighting began in April 2023.
