A new US defence agreement signed this week could see American troops stationed at Mestersvig, a remote Danish military outpost in eastern Greenland. The site sits near the GIUK gap, a key chokepoint for Russia's Northern Fleet. Its 1,800-metre gravel airstrip can handle military transport aircraft. The US could also establish a base at Narsarsuaq.
