Tamil Nadu revokes RTI exemption for Law and Order Department

Tamil Nadu has withdrawn its order exempting the Public (Law and Order) Department from the RTI Act, days after activists and transparency advocates criticised the move. The September notification had classified the department as an intelligence and security organisation, shielding records on custodial deaths, police firing and detentions. The rollback restores public access to information on police accountability.
