MacArthur Foundation names 20 fellows for 2026 class

The MacArthur Foundation announced its 2026 fellowship class on Tuesday, awarding 20 individuals $800,000 each over five years for "exceptional creativity." The recipients span performing arts to social sciences, range in age by four decades and live across three continents. This year's class shows a particular focus on confronting history, including saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, economist Ellora Derenoncourt and painter Vincent Valdez.
