The European Commission has approved Shionogi's Zokovea (ensitrelvir), the EU's first oral antiviral for COVID-19 post-exposure prophylaxis, covering adults and adolescents aged 12 and older. A Phase 3 trial of 2,387 household contacts found a 67% reduction in symptomatic COVID-19 through Day 10 when treatment began within 72 hours of exposure. The drug is also authorised in Japan and the US.
