Fiji Declares HIV Emergency as Infections Surge

Fiji has declared a national HIV emergency, with about one in 60 adults now living with the virus. New infections rose 27% in 2025 to 2,016 cases, a 12-fold increase since 2010, driven largely by needle sharing amid a methamphetamine epidemic. Officials expect an HIV Act change within weeks to allow needle distribution.
